Did you get your Linked In Data Breach notice?

Posted on: May 28th, 2016 by Herlihy Insurance Group No Comments

LinkedIn Data Breach

Notice of Data Breach

You may have heard reports recently about a security issue involving LinkedIn. We would like to make sure you have the facts about what happened, what information was involved, and the steps we are taking to help protect you.

What Happened?

On May 17, 2016, we became aware that data stolen from LinkedIn in 2012 was being made available online. This was not a new security breach or hack. We took immediate steps to invalidate the passwords of all LinkedIn accounts that we believed might be at risk. These were accounts created prior to the 2012 breach that had not reset their passwords since that breach.

So many of us use this online networking tool! When the “World’s Largest Professional Network” is infiltrated by cyber thieves it is another good time to check your business insurance coverage.

If you are a business owner or a controller at a business, review these three questions with your insurance provider.

  1. Is my business covered for the expenses of a data breach if my business has a breach?
The breach cost of each stolen record is estimated at $150 per record!
  2. Does my business store or transmit credit card information?
Cyber thieves are utilizing computers to hijack electronic credit card transmissions.
  3. Does my business have protection for Computer Fraud and Funds Transfer Fraud?
Bangladesh Central Bank found $100 million missing after a weekend.

As with any business you select your insurance coverage and you decide if you want the coverage. We know that not all businesses need Cyber Liability and Data Breach coverage. We at Herlihy Insurance Group just like to make sure our businesses know what they selected and they had the option to add a coverage that was relevant.

Questions on what is covered on your business insurance? Ask us! And maybe you want to take advantage of our SHRED IT day June 18, 2016. Contact us for more info.

Herlihy Insurance Group Celebrates National Small Business Week!

Posted on: May 6th, 2016 by Herlihy Insurance Group No Comments

Chances are if you are reading this you may be employed by a small business. In Massachusetts it is estimated that 1.4 million of us work at small businesses.

We at Herlihy Insurance Group wanted to take a moment to celebrate a few small businesses this week. Our staff visited a few of these and here is a recap of our visits!

Crown Bakery and Café
133 Gold Star Blvd, Worcester

There is quite a bit to say about this small business. It starts with my memories of waiting in line with my father to get the “Parker House” rolls. This was always a holiday tradition. We have moved on from just getting rolls to also bringing in pastries and other sweets to our staff. These are always well received and delicious.

A quick story about this small business… one afternoon I went it to buy some pastries for a friend. The woman working there asked me what they were for and I explained that they were going to be dropped off for a relative in the hospital. With that she quickly said, ” I knew there was something wrong. Here I have some more things for you”.

With that she filled up a bag of food and refused to take payment for them.

I will always remember this small business’s kindness on that day. For me this is a perfect example of what makes a successful small business. AND every thing in there is delicious! Check it out!

Herlihy Insurance Group Goes to Prom!

27 Dresses

Well technically we are not actually going to Prom, but we do like to collect gently used or new prom dresses for the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester.

Our goal is 27 DRESSES for the young ladies at the club.

We invite all of our friends and family to drop off dresses from now until 4/22/16. Once we have our collection assembled, we will bring this the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester.

So why not do a bit of spring cleaning and donate a few dresses to our collection? Your donations would be most appreciated!

Many thanks for your support!

Today in honor of all Veterans Herlihy Insurance Group would like to share

Veteran’s Day Prayer

By Joanna Fuchs

Dear Lord,
Today we honor our veterans,
worthy men and women
who gave their best
when they were called upon
to serve and protect their country.
We pray that you will bless them, Lord,
for their unselfish service
in the continual struggle
to preserve our freedoms, our safety,
and our country’s heritage, for all of us.
Bless them abundantly
for the hardships they faced,
for the sacrifices they made
for their many different contributions
to America’s victories
over tyranny and oppression.
We respect them, we thank them,
we honor them, we are proud of them,
and we pray that you will watch over
these special people
and bless them with peace and happiness.

What I Learned from our Retiring Octogenarian

Austie Leary

Last Friday our agency celebrated the contributions of our own Octogenarian, Austie Leary.

At the age of 84 as Austie moves on to this next phase of his life everyone in our office is sad to see him go and we will miss him.

It is rare to work along side a co worker that is literally liked and respected by all. This is the case with Austie. As we put together a few anecdotes about Austie’s forty plus years with the Herlihy Insurance Group I began to realize that I had learned many things while working along side him.

Here are just a few of the highlights about what I have learned:

  • Taking the time to say good morning and good night to people matters.
  • Smiling frequently improves your surroundings.
  • Waiting patiently is an art form. (May come with practice?)
  • Staying positive is a thing.
  • Wearing outfits that are always ironed and pressed can be accomplished.
  • Cheering in the successes of others spreads success and joy.
  • Honesty and integrity are still alive and well.
  • Being willing to learn new things is brave.
  • Listening and hearing can be two different things.
  • Interest in others enriches your own life.
  • Being a true team player takes a lot of selflessness.

Herlihy Insurance Group is deeply grateful for all of the experiences we have shared with Austie We wish him all the best!

Personally I have a lot more to learn from him and look forward to doing so over lunch. Thanks for playing ! APL.

Memorial Day

Herlihy Insurance Group wishes all a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. We are thankful for living in this country and we know that freedom is not free.

Memorial Day

Freedom Is Not Free

By Kelly Strong

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He’d stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers’ tears?
How many pilots’ planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves?
No, freedom isn’t free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant “Amen,”
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn’t free.
