Another Dinnertime Conversation about Insurance

My husband is now old enough to have friends moving away to Florida. They are trading their northeastern homes for warmer weather. On a recent visit to their new homes (he does only visit in Jan-March), he was amazed at a few comments about their new locations.

His friend shared, “I cannot get insurance.” Now since our dinner tables over the year did have insurance related conversations, my husband knew this was not a factual statement.

He simply replied, “John, you can get insurance. You just don’t want to pay for it!” I was very pleased not to be there for that conversation, as many people seem to believe that insurance agents set the prices.

There is no question it has been a few crazy years in the insurance marketplace.

Pandemic lockdowns, extreme weather events, supply chain delivery challenges, nuclear verdicts, companies leaving states, and regulators approving and not approving rate changes have all impacted insurance prices.
