Property Damage and Your Car Insurance
In Massachusetts we have a required car insurance coverage of property damage. Since there are 12 coverage parts to this policy, I feel like this one gets over looked frequently.
These days as we watch escalating car values and increased costs of just about everything, it is time to take a quick look at your own car insurance policy and the property damage limit that you have selected.
The best news we have about this is…….. updating your property damage liability limit is NOT expensive and can come in very handy.
Given the number of expensive vehicles on the road and the risk of causing property damage to a building or other structure in a car accident, the property damage you cause might easily surpass your insurance coverage.
Here are a few claims examples from our clients where they needed their property damage limit to be significant:
- Client has car in drive when they think it is in reverse and goes straight through the restaurant window damaging the window, the restaurant seating area, and the building security system
- Client takes out guard rail, telephone pole, and knocks out power to a neighborhood
- Client backs into the Bentley parked in the restaurant parking lot
We can and do make mistakes. If we do damage someone else’s property with our car, we want that property damage liability limit to be there for us.
Limits for this coverage range from $25,000 to $250,000. Check out your limit today. You will be glad you did! Need even more property damage liability protection? Ask us about Personal Umbrella Coverage!
Until then, Safe driving.
