Car Rental and Car Insurance
Well my husband is off on another business trip and that means that he will eventually be headed to a car rental counter in some airport.
It is always a bit confusing to come out of a new airport in a new “rental” car and listen to a GPS to tell you which way to turn. On most of my husband’s business adventures this works out okay. I think he saves all of his interesting driving for me when we go on vacation.
His employer has advised him NOT to buy the collision waiver coverage when he is on a business trip. I , as his insurance agent, advise him to buy this. He rents the car in his name with his credit card and he is responsible for the rental.
Here is what concerns me on his rental. Rental Car Companies used to write off the expense of the “loss of use” time that a damaged rental car spent in a garage getting repaired. It appears that with many rental companies this is no longer the case.
We have had a few of our clients billed by the rental companies for this lost income. In the past our clients were able to have these dismissed by the rental companies. That may no longer be the case with many car rental companies.
So as you head out on that business trip or vacation maybe it is a good idea to purchase the collision damage waiver coverage from that car rental company.
As always it will be your choice, we just like to share with you things that are happening out there with regard to accidents, loss of use and who pays what!
