Those College Students Should Be Settled By Now!
Insurance reminder:
We know college students have a LOT to do in September and checking on insurance is probably not a priority.
If you are a college student living off campus or the parent of a college student living off, please take a moment and review our frequently asked questions regarding you and your student.
Are college students covered by their parent’s Homeowner’s Insurance?
Yes and No! This will depend on the details of the student’s living situation and the type of home insurance policy that the parents carry. We always check with our companies to get confirmation of coverage in writing. This can be a grey area.
Do you need to add coverage for certain high valued items?
Computers, bicycles, gaming systems, jewelry are the types of items that we like to go over with our students. You may elect to upgrade coverage for these types of valuable. Unfortunately, we have seen a rise in apartment thefts.
Should you share your policy with your roommate?
It may seem like a good idea to split the cost of your policy with your roommate, but beware of picking up the roommate’s claims experience or liability issues once you are no longer roommates.
What liability limit should you select?
Liability coverage may provide coverage for the cost of a guest being injured at your apartment. This is part of your apartment insurance package so be sure to buy a limit of at least $500,000. This liability part is not expensive.
If you take a car to school do you need to update your insurance?
Yes! When your car changes location, we do need to update your garaging info. This is extremely important to make sure your claims are covered.
