This recent severe flooding in our country reminds us all that our changing climate is impacting different parts of our country and world in many different ways.
There is no question this is a complex issue for all. One company recently shared with us their interesting look at the impact of climate change on properties and communities.
As insurance professionals we think this info is worth sharing with our clients, friends and families.
Although we do not have many wildfires in our area, we do have flooding events.
In the past, we utilized information and data provided by the National Flood Insurance Program when guiding clients on the risk of flooding for their properties.
First Street Foundation has reviewed the impact of climate change and flood, and has developed flooding risk factors that take into account these climate changes. You can check out this info with this link to see if your property’s factor has changed.
What’s Your Flood Factor?
Flood Factor® is a free, online tool that makes it easy to learn if a property has flooded from major events in the past, is currently at risk, and how that risk changes over time. It can also help estimate damage costs associated with flooding or highlight infrastructure and community risk. Flood Factor simplifies flooding so anyone can find their risk, understand the science, and make informed decisions to prepare for the future.
